Impulsonics have been awarded the prestigious ICURe spin-out support grant to enable the development of their unique platform technology for biotech automation.

Impulsonics, a University of Bristol spin-out focusing on building a flexible acoustic platform for biotechnology automation, has been awarded a £300,000 fully funded grant to develop their technology for key applications in the process of growing cells.

“This is a huge opportunity for us to take our technology to the next level,” said Impulsonics CEO Luke Cox “it will enable us to expand our team and facilities as well as getting get our technology out there. Through the ICURe we were able to realised the biggest problems in the industry and I’m delighted that we’ll be able to address them.”

Impulsonics technology will enable the process of cell growth to be more easily automated in line with existing work flows. This grant will enable development of the flexible platform with an emphasis on the key pain point of cell passaging but will also build the foundations for a whole host of other processes. This can be applied everywhere from pre-clinical research through to cell therapies and personalised medicine.

“We are committed to making cell culture automation as accessible and user-friendly as possible,” said Engineering Lead Amanda Franklin. “We believe that this technology has the potential to make a huge impact on the way that cells are grown in a whole host of applications.”

Impulsonics is also supported by Setsquared Bristol, The Wilkinson Innovation Award, the Bristol Runway Awards and the University of Bristol’s New Enterprise Competition.

Impulsonics is a University of Bristol spin-out company applying acoustic waves to make biotech automation simple.
