Dr Luke Cox presents at BII Innovation Day as part of Science Prize for Innovation

Dr Luke Cox, CEO of Impulsonics, has attended the BioInnovation Institute (BII) Innovation Day in Copenhagen, Denmark as one of the finalists for the prestigious Science Prize for Innovation.

The event, which took place earlier this week was hosted by BII CTO Markus Herrgård and also included live talks from Holden Thorp, Editor-in-Chief of Science and Mikkel Bülow Skovborg, Senior Vice President at the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

This event also featured the inaugural presentation of the  BII & Science Translational Medicine Prize for Innovation in Women’s Health, which was awarded to Dr. Marlena Fejzo for her pioneering discoveries about severe morning sickness. Her inspiring presentation focused on the path to curing debilitating morning sickness.

Founded in 2017, BII aims to advance research, innovation, and entrepreneurship within the life sciences. Denmark, recognized as the number two innovation leader in the EU, has been at the forefront of attracting investments and collaborating with top tech players globally.

The Science Prize for Innovation recognises bold researchers who are asking fundamental questions at the intersection of the life sciences and entrepreneurship.

Being recognized as a finalist for this award is an incredible honour and meeting the other finalists and winners has served as a huge reminder of just how impactful biotechnology can be on the lives of millions around the world. Dr Cox’s prize article, which you can read here, details his journey from University of Bristol student to start-up CEO. Initially working on acoustic levitation of a diamond, he realized the technology's potential to handle small, delicate objects, leading him to work on moving cells.

Impulsonics is developing a biotech automation technology that will enable complex processes to be significantly streamlined, replacing the need for large lab equipment and opening up applications in drug discovery and personalized medicine screening.  

Dr Cox expressed his enthusiasm for the event, saying, "BII’s Innovation Day 2025 has been an inspiring fantastic opportunity to connect with other innovators and leaders in the life sciences both in Denmark’s exciting ecosystem and from around the world. I have been excited to share Impulsonics’ journey and learn from the incredible minds present."
